On towards Yarmouth.....

Old postcards are sometimes poorly produced and grainy, I've done my best to scan them.

Dates are from the card or my estimate (where possible). The maker of the card is shown in brackets (where available).

Golden Hill fort

Fort Albert

Golden Hill Fort, inland south of Colwell Bay, was completed in 1870

was used for light industry, it is now to be used for housing. (Judges)

Not a postcard, but rather a photo of Fort Albert, completed in1856, it has been converted to apartments. Note Hurst Castle in the background.

'The Northern extremity of Colwell Bay is called CLIFF'S END, and protected by ALBERT FORT, a battery mounting 40 gun."

The wreck of HMS Gladiator, a Royal Navy Cruiser which was in collision with an America mail liner, St Paul, off Fort Victoria on  25th April 1908 with the loss of 29 lives. The vessel was eventually righted using cables anchored to the shore (the anchor points may still be seen on the footpath between Fort Victoria and Yarmouth).
